EE launches 5G mobile broadband plans

EE is launching the UK's first 5G mobile broadband plans, enabling customers to create a 5G-powered Wi-Fi hotspot providing the fastest speeds, even in the busiest places.

EE's 5GEE WiFi service will give users access to 5G speeds and improved performance for those who need the very best connectivity on the go. EE will offer the service with the HTC 5G Hub - the very first 5G mobile broadband device available in the UK. The HTC 5G Mobile Smart Hub will allow customers to benefit from smooth 4K video streaming, low-latency gaming, and 5G mobile hotspot connections for up to 20 users.

Unlike other mobile broadband hotspots, the HTC 5G Hub features a 5-inch HD capacitive touchscreen, so it can be used as a media centre, accessing 5G to stream 4K videos to a second screen and deliver crisp, clear content. Intuitive voice command and remote-control features also make it quick and easy to manage entertainment needs. For gaming, low-latency, 60fps, and 4K resolution (on compatible screens), the HTC 5G Hub is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Mobile Platform. Along with Android 9 Pie, this allows for unprecedented download speeds and power for native Android and PC games supported on the large screen. The device also features a microphone as well as a loud speaker for playback, 30 meter WiFi range and a built-in Gigabit ethernet port.

HTC 5G hub supports Quick charge 3.0 and USB-C 3.1 with DisplayPort support and has 32GB internal storage (and expandable memory via MicroSD) meaning you can also download and store media directly on the device. So, whether you need to connect a laptop or tablet on the go, video-call from a hotel room, pass time with a few mobile games or even get step-by-step cooking advice from Google Assistant, the HTC 5G Hub can do it all.

The smart hub, which costs £500 as a standalone device, is available from EE with 5G for a one-off upfront fee of just £100 with either 50GB of monthly data on a £50 per month, 24-month 5GEE WiFi plan, or with 100GB on a £75 per month.

EE is switching on 5G sites in 16 UK cities in 2019. The first launch cities have already launched in UK's four capital cities - London, Cardiff, Edinburgh and Belfast - plus Birmingham and Manchester. As well as the six launch cities, through 2019 EE will also be introducing 5G across the busiest parts of ten more UK cities: Glasgow, Newcastle, Liverpool, Leeds, Hull, Sheffield, Nottingham, Leicester, Coventry and Bristol.
