Motorola Moto G 2nd Gen

10.10.2014
Second generation closes ranks

Packaging and accessories

A neat, small box contains surprisingly low amount of accessories. Besides the phone we can find only a whit USB cable… There is a multilingual manual with information about safety, norms and regulations and a laconic flyer with a beginner’s guide for using the device. That is all. Is such a set a matter of being economic? After all the first generation of Moto G achieved popularity because it was good and cheap. However, I expected something more…

We can buy additional accessories on our own – for example we can exchange the back cover for a raspberry, blue, mint or turquoise colour (Moto G is sold only in a black or white version), or we can buy a coloured flap, which will additionally protect the display.

Battery

A 2070 mAh cell offers a rather good work time. Used only for calls (around 100 minutes) and sporadically browsing the Internet or taking photos, Motorola Moto G achieved 2.5 day without a charger. But a more intensive usage, which covered streamed videos, playing or browsing the Internet more often shortened this time to not more than 24 hours. There is a power saving mode as well, which automatically limits data transfer in the background until the phone is connected to the charger.

Summary

Moto G is supposed to be distinguished by a very good capabilities to price ratio. On the American site of the manufacturer the second generation of the described Motorola’s phone is priced on 179.99 dollars. Unfortunately, in Europe prices are higher, because on the w Internet site for the British market the price has gone up to 149.99 pounds.

Is it worth its price? On the one hand it is a really good and a solid phone, but in reality it does not offer anything special. As far as the first Moto G is concerned, it does not bring any revolutionary changes, mostly corrections. But there is a one positive phenomenon – a decrease of first generation models’ prices. And in a while models’ prices from the second generation will go down as well…
